Special Forces Conduct 20km Route March to Boost Combat Readiness

The Special Forces Command (SFC)'s sixth  Infantry Battalion Commanding Officer, Lt Col Sam Kabweera, has urged personnel to maintain high levels of physical fitness, endurance, and mental resilience, emphasizing that physical training remains fundamental to military professionalism and combat effectiveness.

Lt Col Kabweera made the remarks during a 20-kilometre route march conducted by the 6 Infantry Battalion under the 1 Special Forces Group (1SFG) across Bendegere, Nkumba, and Kasenyi.

The exercise brought together officers and militants from the Kasenyi and Bwebajja detachments as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen physical fitness, endurance, and operational readiness among personnel.

Lt Col Kabweera explained that the route march was designed to assess and enhance the physical endurance, stamina, and mental toughness of personnel within the unit, noting that such exercises are essential in preparing soldiers to effectively execute their duties under demanding operational conditions.

“Physical training remains a cornerstone of military professionalism and combat effectiveness. Through activities such as route marches, we are able to strengthen not only the physical capabilities of our personnel but also their mental resilience and teamwork,” he said.

He commended the officers and militants for the enthusiasm, commitment, and determination demonstrated throughout the exercise, noting that discipline, cohesion, and teamwork are cultivated through sustained physical activity and collective effort.

Lt Col Kabweera emphasized that physical fitness is a critical component of military preparedness and contributes significantly to the effectiveness of soldiers during operations.

He further noted that regular field exercises are essential in preparing troops for operational deployment and ensuring that units remain capable of accomplishing assigned missions within required timelines.

“Such exercises enable us to evaluate our readiness while building the endurance, discipline, and teamwork necessary for successful mission execution,” he said.

He underscored the importance of maintaining consistent training programmes to ensure that personnel remain physically and mentally prepared to respond to operational requirements whenever called upon.

The route march demonstrated the battalion’s high level of combat readiness, discipline, and operational capability, reinforcing its preparedness to effectively execute the mandate of the Special Forces Command.
